Frequently Asked Questions
What is Electronic Polarization Technology (EPT) and how does it work?
Electronic Polarization Technology (EPT) uses a low-voltage electrical charge to polarize airborne particles, causing them to attach to collector pad fibers. This allows ECOairflow filters to capture ultrafine particles as small as 0.001 microns — including viruses, bacteria, wildfire smoke, and automotive pollution — with significantly lower pressure drop than traditional mechanical filters.
What MERV ratings are available in ECOairflow's commercial and industrial filter line?
ECOairflow offers MERV 11, 12, and 13 rated filters for residential and standard commercial applications. For demanding industrial and high-performance commercial settings, the M-Series Hybrid E.A.C. is available in MERV 13, 14, 15, and 16 configurations — all with certified performance under powered, unpowered, and ASHRAE Appendix J testing conditions.
Are ECOairflow filters safe — do they produce ozone?
All ECOairflow electronic air cleaners are UL 2998 Zero Ozone Verified by Intertek (ETL), confirming ozone emissions below 0.0005 ppm (5 ppb). This exceeds ozone standards set by the FDA, EPA, NIOSH, CARB, and OSHA, making these filters safe for use in occupied spaces including hospitals, schools, and commercial buildings.
Can ECOairflow filters be used in LEED or WELL Building certified projects?
Yes. The Dynamo 2" E.A.C. and M-Series Hybrid E.A.C. qualify for credits under LEED (USGBC), WELL Building Standard, International Living Future Institute (ILFI), National Green Building Standard (NGBS), and Passivehaus programs. They also comply with ASHRAE 62.1-2019 Section 5.7.1, which governs air cleaning devices in commercial ventilation systems.
What is the difference between powered-only and hybrid filter operation?
Powered-only filters like the Model 1000, Dynamo 1", Dynamo 2", and Model 1500 achieve their rated MERV performance when electrically energized via a 24V HVAC signal. The M-Series Hybrid E.A.C. is the only ECOairflow filter that maintains its full rated MERV performance in both powered and unpowered states, and also under ASHRAE Appendix J test conditioning — critical for hospitals and environments where power continuity cannot be guaranteed.
How often do ECOairflow filters require maintenance and how are pads replaced?
ECOairflow recommends replacing collector pads every three months. Maintenance is straightforward: open the filter housing, remove the used pad set, and drop in new replacements — no tools required. The patented one-piece pad design on the Dynamo series and the extended capacity frames on the Model 1500 are engineered for fast servicing by HVAC contractors or facility maintenance staff.
Are custom sizes available for non-standard HVAC duct configurations?
Yes. All ECOairflow filter models are available in all industry-standard sizes as well as custom dimensions to accommodate non-standard duct openings, retrofit applications, and specialized commercial or industrial HVAC equipment. Contact ECOairflow directly at 1-877-347-3569 or customerservice@ecoairflow.com to discuss custom sizing requirements.
